Haukelands University Hospital, Norway
Oddvar Oppegaard is a medical doctor and specialist in infectious diseases, currently working as a senior physician at the Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, Norway.
He is part of the research group “Streptococcal Interest Group” in Bergen, focusing on invasive β-haemolytic streptococcal infections, ranging from clinical perspectives to whole genome sequencing and in-depth dissection of microbial characteristics.
The main emphasis of his research is on the emerging pathogen Streptococcus dysgalactiae, extending from descriptive epidemiology to investigation of virulence properties. He is currently engaged in a post-doctoral fellowship studying antimicrobial resistance and mobile genetic elements in β-haemolytic streptococci, combining resistance epidemiology with whole genome characterization and phylogenetics.
