I am a microbiologist with a broad background in microbiology and innate immunology with expertise working with a variety of Gram positive bacterial pathogens with a specific focus on Group B streptococcus (GBS) Specifically, I study host - pathogen interactions in the central nervous system (CNS) and the female reproductive tract. My research program seeks to elucidate the mechanisms by which GBS penetrates the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and colonizes the female reproductive tract, as well as characterize host response and defense during infection and colonization. Newer studies are focused on understanding mucosal immunity, barrier function and role of the normal microbiota.
