Murdoch Children's Research Institute and University of Melbourne, Australia

Josh is a Paediatric Infectious Diseases physician at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and works in the Tropical Diseases research group at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. With a team of Strep A superstars led by Prof. Andrew Steer, Josh has established the Controlled Human Infection for Vaccines Against Streptococcus pyogenes (CHIVAS) pharyngitis human challenge model as a platform for evaluating vaccines and studying host-pathogen interactions in the organism’s only natural host. CHIVAS has featured prominently at major Strep A vaccine development meetings and human challenge study conferences. Planning for future challenge studies is underway to support development of new long-acting penicillin products and to evaluate vaccines with the Australian Strep A Vaccine Initiative (ASAVI).
