Doctor Jenny Persson
Lund University, Sweden
Dr Jenny J Persson is an associate professor at the section for Immunology at Lund University. She has a particular interest in molecular innate immunity and interactions with bacterial virulence factors. Dr Persson earned her PhD in Medical Microbiology at Lund University, investigating various aspects of the interactions between the Streptococcus pyogenes M protein, and the human complement system. She then moved to UC Berkeley for her post-doctoral training, studying how macrophages sense cytosolic bacterial flagellin and subsequently activate the inflammasome. Once back in Sweden, she made a quick stop at Karolinska Institutet, taking the initial steps towards creating an independent line of research before moving back to Lund to set up her own lab. The Host-Pathogen Interactions group was established in 2013 and the work currently performed in the group regards regulation of innate immunity by S. pyogenes virulence factors SLO and NADase, induction of adaptive immunity during S. pyogenes infection, and microbial and endogenous regulation of inflammasome activation.
