Dr Claire Turner is currently a Royal Society & Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale research fellow at the University of Sheffield, UK. Dr Turner obtained her PhD on Streptococcus pyogenes SpyCEP in the laboratory of Prof Shiranee Sriskandan at Imperial College London. She then followed this with a post-doctoral position in the same lab and transitioned towards an independent career with an Imperial College Junior Research Fellowship, working on the emm89 lineages. She moved to the Department of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology at the University of Sheffield in 2016 to start her own independent research group working on S. pyogenes, focusing on using population whole genome sequence data to identify molecular changes and apply them to pathogenesis and infection models.  She is on the management team for the Florey Institute for host-pathogen interactions in Sheffield and course director for the MSc on AMR.
