Claire Poyart

Prof Claire Poyart is MD, PhD studied medicine and microbiology at the Universities Pierre et Marie Curie and Paris Descartes. She made her PhD at Pasteur Institute where most of its work was devoted to the study of the genetic support of antibiotic resistance among Gram-positive bacteria. C. Poyart was recruited as an "Assistant Professor" at the Faculty of Medecine Necker and worked in the "Necker-Institut Pasteur Joint Laboratory for Research on Streptococci". She started to study, the virulence of Group B Streptococcus, the leading cause of invasive infections in neonates. In 2003, she was nominated Professor and moved to the Hospital Cochin as the head of the Clinical bacteriological laboratory and the INSERM team "Bacteria&Perinatality». Her present research combining clinical and fundamental approaches is directed mainly towards characterizing the virulence factors of Group A and Group B Streptococcus. As a clinical microbiologist her clinical research aims at the epidemiological characterization of GAS and GBS strains responsible for invasive infections and colonization, the development of diagnostic tools for the detection and the identification of Gram-positive bacteria. She is co-author of more than 190 international peer review publications.
