The Lancefield Society

The Lancefield Society is an international association that brings together professionals in the field of streptococci and streptococcal diseases to raise awareness, promote scientific collaboration and research, and improve diagnosis, prevention and treatment. The Lancefield Society is not-for-profit and non-governmental. While it has its administrative headquarters in Melbourne, Australia, the Society is international in its scope, thinking and membership. The main activity of the Lancefield Society is the triennial Lancefield International Symposium on Streptococci and Streptoccocal Diseases (LISSSD), the premier event for clinicians, scientists and students engaged in the field of streptococci and streptococcal diseases research.

LISSSD will be heading to Brisbane, Australia in 2025, co-chaired by Dr Manisha Pandey and Prof. Michael Good.

Virtually eradicated in large parts of the world, rheumatic heart disease (RHD) continues to have a devastating impact on vulnerable communities in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South-East Asia and the Western Pacific, affecting 40 million people and claiming more than 300,000 lives every year.
